Who are we

Our work.  Our values.

Small Axe is a not-for-profit based in London, UK with one goal: to create movements that are progressive, hopeful and powerful, to inspire people to act on the most pressing issues of our time.

We bring together bold creative, communications and organising to run integrated end-to-end campaigns.

We campaign with humility, integrity and passion for the causes we work on; whether hired by clients, collaborating with partners, or launching our own.

We’re proud that our work has played a crucial role in three General Elections. For Green Party MP Caroline Lucas, winning her 2015 re-election campaign. At the 2017 General Election, we ran the two most effective third-party campaigns against School Cuts and for a Progressive Alliance. In 2019, across three campaigns for the labour movement, pushing education funding to the third top issue behind Brexit and the NHS, and making sure no-one was denied their right to vote with canivote.org.uk. Right now we’re working on campaigns with the UK’s largest education union - the National Education Union, the International Rescue Committee and more.

We don’t work with corporations, we don’t do CSR and we don’t extract profit from the movement. We’ve been a worker co-operative from the beginning.

We believe in the power of diversity of thought, life experience, opinions, culture and ideas. We don’t pretend to be free from bias and groupthink, but work hard to overcome this.

The team

Our team is made up of campaigners, designers and operations folk from the UK, US, Canada, Australia and Malaysia.

Our combined experiences have made us more creative campaigners and organisers with a stronger vision of how we make change happen in the UK. We know that bold campaigns come from learning from each other.

“The best thing about Small Axe is the people. You get to work with driven, creative and passionate folks who are always honing their craft and supporting each other. My next favourite thing is the fact that no two days are the same. The opportunities we have to work on a wide range of issues that make a tangible difference to people's lives, from a pay rise for key workers to holding global corporations to account over worker safety, are unparalleled.”

Neha, Campaigns Director at Small Axe

“I was part of Small Axe at the very beginning, working in communications and campaigns. I've seen the way the organisation has adapted, learned and stayed sharp, whilst always prioritising meaningful relationships. That's what brought me back after a few years away. Now I work in an internal role - taking care of the brilliant team and making sure things behind the scenes run smoothly. There's never any doubt that this is valued just as much as the more visible work. We cheer each other on."
